The Public Service Commission’s quarterly "Pulse of the Public Service" bulletin has revealed a regression in the timely payment of invoices to service providers by government departments in the 2024-2025 financial year.
The Commission investigates personnel and public administration practices, focusing on issues like irregular appointments, procurement irregularities and poor service delivery.
The PSC says the number of invoices paid after 30 days by the national departments was 143 245, with the rand value of R6.4 billion as at the end of the 2024/25 financial year.
This indicates a 32% regression in unpaid invoices compared to the 2023/24 financial year.
Commissioners want consequence management instituted against Accounting Officers who fail to pay service providers within 30 days upon receipt of an invoice.
